Chilean Cherry Committee Announces This Year’s Lucky Draw Winners

February 21, 2023

On Feb. 16, the Chilean Cherry Committee of the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX) announced the winners of this year’s “Million Super Lucky Draw” promotion.

Staff from the Shanghai Minhang Notary Public Office were invited to oversee the draw, which has become one of the most eye-catching activities of the annual Cherries from Chile promotional campaign in China. This year, a total of 518 participants won a variety of prizes, including Apple MacBook Pro computers, iPhone 14 devices, Apple Watches, Dyson V11 Fluffy vacuum cleaners, Dyson air purifiers, Dyson hair dryers, pure gold bracelets and, of course, fresh Chilean cherries worth 400,000 Chinese yuan ($58,200).

This year’s lucky draw attracted more than 43,000 consumers to purchase cherries and participate. In order to provide substantial support to cherry distributors and retailers in China, this high-profile promotional activity has now been held for three consecutive years. Entry into the lucky draw is open to all consumers who upload their proof of purchase of Chilean cherries.

Approximately 85% of Chile’s cherry exports to China this season took place before the Spring Festival, with shipments peaking during the leadup to the holiday. The immense popularity of the fruit is largely attributable to the long-term promotional efforts made by the Chilean Cherry Committee. This season, the committee launched over 12,000 offline promotions with two dozen key retailers. As for online channels, hundreds of internet celebrities were hired to promote Chilean cherries on various platforms such as WeChat, Weibo, Douyin and Xiaohongshu.

Through these activities, Chilean cherries have further expanded their presence on the Chinese market. However, the Chilean Cherry Committee is not content with fresh cherries only being a popular snack on various festivals. As a highlight of this season’s work, the committee is cultivating a culture among Chinese consumers of enjoying cherries on a daily basis.
