Apples
Apple pricing at the retail level increased this week in China and was between ¥44.00 and ¥56.00 (1 kg), although the average pricing is being lifted due to imported goods, which account for 80% of our collected data for the week. When focusing on Fuji, which is dominated by China, pricing comes in considerably lower at ¥23.00–24.00 (1 kg). View market data.
Avocados
Five weeks ago, avocado pricing at the wholesale level was considerably lower than it is today, and this fact can be seen at the retail price level too. Currently, Peruvian Hass avocados can be purchased for an average value of ¥60.00 (1 kg) and this is compared to between ¥45.00 and ¥55.00 during weeks 25–35. View market data.
Blueberries
In the berry segment, blueberries account for 63% of the data that has been collected over the past three weeks, followed by raspberries and blackberries at 20% and 17%, respectively. Blueberry pricing currently stands at ¥14.62 (125 g), compared with over ¥20.00 (125 g) in the same week of last year. This mirrors what is seen at the wholesale level, where the market is rather challenging. View market data.
Grapes
At the wholesale level, the market is entirely dominated by Chinese produce and this is exactly what is visible in retail. The displays are absolutely beautiful and give energy, in sharp contrast to the punnets on European shelves. Retail pricing has lifted this week to average ¥37.90 (1 kg), compared to what appears to be the low of the season in weeks 29–39, where pricing was between ¥23.00 and ¥29.00 (1 kg). Citrus
The overall citrus market is rather challenging, with the only exceptions to this rule being grapefruit and of course lemons. Wholesale pricing for oranges pulled downward this week, while a rather similar situation occurred for soft citrus out of South Africa and Australia. At the retail level, orange pricing sits at an average value of ¥26.00 (1 kg), which is within the ¥20.00–30.00 range that we have seen since week 19 onward. Meanwhile, soft citrus sits at around ¥29.81 (1 kg), which is lower than last season by 6%. It should be noted that on the higher side we see ¥40.00 (1 kg) and on the more economic side ¥25.00 (1 kg). View market data.
