Apples (⇩)
Prices for key New Zealand varieties have softened. NZ Royal Gala saw a slight dip, averaging around ¥291 (18 kg, various sizes), which is down by 4% compared to the same week of last year. NZ Queen prices also eased to around ¥292 (18 kg), a decrease from the previous week and trading 9% below last year’s level. Grapes (⇩)
Chilean Red Globe prices have seen another week of sharp declines, settling at approximately ¥75 (8.2 kg), a significant drop from the previous week and trading similar to the low values seen at the tail end of both 2024 and 2023. Australian Crimson has also seen prices fall further, now averaging ¥108 (9.5 kg), which is markedly lower (45%) than the same period of 2023. Grapefruit (⇩)
This week, prices for South African Star Ruby pulled down further following usual trends, but they are 9% firmer than last year and 11% firmer than 2023. In retail, we have seen some pricing decrease slightly and this will be supporting movement, although movement does appear to be steady in this beginning stage of the season. Oranges (⇧)
Egyptian Valencia prices showed renewed strength, climbing to an average of ¥173 (15 kg, various sizes). This represents a notable increase from the prior week and places current values considerably above last season. Soft Citrus (⇧)
The soft citrus market is seeing initial arrivals from South Africa and Australia, with South Africa currently leading supply. South African Nova are trading around ¥177 (10 kg, various sizes). This is a better start to the season than in 2023 but is rather similar to what is on record in 2024. View market data.
