With the 2023/24 Chilean fruit season fast approaching, a delegation from the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX) recently visited the new Huanan wholesale fruit market in Wuhan to tap into the Central China market.
The members of the delegation, including Iván Marambio, president of ASOEX, Claudia Soler, executive director of the Chilean Cherry Committee, Ignacio Caballero, ASOEX’s global marketing director, and Charif Christian Carvajal, ASOEX’s marketing director for Asia and Europe, were accompanied by Huang Ping, general manager of the wholesale market. The focus of the visit was the imported fruit area, so that the delegation could learn more about the sales of imported fruits and the operation of the area for full truckload trading. A workshop on Chilean cherries and other fruits was also held after the visit to exchange views on the sustainable development of the industry with representatives of the market.
Marambio highlighted Wuhan’s role as a metropolis with more than 13 million inhabitants and one of the major consumption centers in inland China. Viewing the growing demand for Chilean fruits in Wuhan, ASOEX specifically took the tour around the local fruit wholesale market, hoping to evaluate the opportunities and challenges for Chilean fruit exports by engaging with local distributors and market staff.
During his tour in Wuhan, Marambio also met with Ren Jian, vice president of the Wuhan branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, in order to promote future cooperation. According to Marambio, “ASOEX has maintained close contact with branches of the CCPIT at different locations, joining hands to promote Chilean fruit exports to China. This year, we have paid visits to CCPIT branches in different cities, such as Beijing and Shanghai. Now, we are having face-to-face communication in Wuhan, expecting more exchanges and cooperation in the future.”
Following their visit to Wuhan, the ASOEX delegation next traveled to Hong Kong to attend the 2023 edition of Asia Fruit Logistica, where they showcased the latest developments of the Chilean fruit industry to professional visitors from Asia and around the world.
