Back to topVietnam’s Peach Imports Surge 184% as Chinese Varieties Gain Ground

According to a recent report by online newspaper VnExpress, Vietnam’s peach imports in the first eight months of this year exceeded $10 million, representing a year-on-year increase of nearly 184%.
A fruit shop owner in Ho Chi Minh City said that she began selling Chinese peaches in mid-July and added yellow-fleshed peaches in early October. At times, she reportedly sells hundreds of cartons of peaches a day. According to her, the market previously offered mainly traditional varieties of Chinese peaches, but this year suppliers have introduced yellow-fleshed and late-season varieties. Most Chinese peaches are priced at 80,000–120,000 Vietnamese dong ($3.09–4.64) per kilogram, compared with around 950,000–1.2 million dong ($36.74–46.41) per kilogram for Japanese peaches and 250,000–500,000 dong ($9.67–19.34) per kilogram for Korean peaches.
This year, Vietnam is importing a wider variety of peaches, with prices also lower than during the same period of last year. A survey of retail outlets found that prices for many peach varieties have fallen by 10–15%, while Chinese peach prices have dropped by as much as 40%.
Despite the price declines, import volumes have increased. A fruit importer in Ho Chi Minh City said that his peach imports have grown by approximately 50% compared with the same period of last year.
Data from the Thu Duc agricultural wholesale market in Ho Chi Minh City show that imports of Chinese peaches reached 846 metric tons in the first seven months of this year, equivalent to 83% of the 1,018 metric tons imported in all of 2025. A market representative said that August to October is typically the peak season for peach imports, and this year’s import season may extend into November. Chinese peaches are currently wholesaling for 13,000–23,000 dong ($0.50–0.89) per kilogram, down from 15,000–23,000 dong ($0.58–0.89) per kilogram during the same period of last year.
According to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs, peach imports exceeded $10 million in the first eight months of this year, up by 183.6% year on year, the largest increase among the 20 fruit and nut categories surveyed. In August alone, peach imports totaled $1.88 million, a 220% year-on-year increase.
In the first eight months of this year, China’s fruit and vegetable exports to Vietnam reached $876 million, up by 51% year on year. Grapes, apples, pears, peaches and Hami melons were among the leading fruit categories exported from China to Vietnam.
