BerryWorld Asia has confirmed it will grow and market Mountain Blue Orchards (MBO) blueberry genetics across China from 2027 — a decisive step in expanding its premium blueberry offering to one of the world’s most significant and fast-growing markets.
The agreement, signed last month, reflects the shared commitment of both organizations to delivering exceptional quality to Chinese consumers, with new plantings commencing this year ahead of a 2027 market launch.
A Relationship Built on Proven Success
BerryWorld’s partnership with MBO dates to 2014, with commercial volumes successfully entering European markets from 2017. Building on that solid foundation, BerryWorld established its Asia division in 2025 — and has now secured the rights to grow and market MBO genetics across China.
Max Emden, head of Asia, is clear about the opportunity:
We are incredibly excited about what these new genetics will offer, having seen the success that varieties such as Eureka Sunrise have already achieved in the Chinese market. They bring improved size and taste which aligns with growing Chinese consumer demand for large, flavorful blueberries. They also provide better coverage of the Chinese commercial window and represent an attractive solution for growers, at a time when Chinese-origin produce has never been stronger. Bringing our first MBO genetics to market this year is a landmark moment for BerryWorld Asia. Combined with our newly secured growing rights across our AgroBerries farms in Peru, we will offer an extended, consistent supply season of premium varieties — firmly establishing our presence and long-term commitment to China’s fresh produce sector.
Award-Winning Quality, Proven at the Highest Level
BerryWorld’s track record with MBO varieties speaks for itself. At the most recent International Taste Institute awards in Brussels — one of the world’s most rigorous and respected assessments of food quality — the results were outstanding. Eureka Dawn, one of the program’s most recent releases, achieved a prestigious two-star Superior Taste Award, adding to the collection of accolades already achieved across the MBO genetics portfolio.

Samuel Rowe, chief genetics officer of the AgroBerries Group, underlines the significance of this expansion:
Over the past decade, we have successfully grown, commercialized, and marketed these premium varieties across Europe and Africa, earning outstanding recognition from growers, retailers, and consumers. China represents an extraordinary opportunity, and we are fully committed to ensuring Mountain Blue Orchards’ advanced genetic pipeline — pushing the boundaries of yield, size, and flavor — delivering the very best to Chinese consumers.
