Peru’s Fresh Blueberry Exports to China Surged 153% in 2025

January 25, 2026

According to data released by Peruvian consultancy firm Fresh Fruit, Peru’s fresh blueberry exports in 2025 reached approximately 412,000 metric tons, with a total export value of nearly $2.56 billion. Compared with 2024, both export volume and export value achieved double-digit growth, while the average annual price was approximately $6.20 per kilogram, slightly lower than the previous year. Benefiting from the launch of direct shipping routes from Chancay Port and the associated reduction in logistics costs, Peru’s blueberry exports to China surged by 153%.

Peru’s 2025 blueberry exports were primarily concentrated in the second half of the year, from August to November. September and October accounted for a significant share of the total export value. The surge in blueberry supply during August and September drove overall exports, but it also made the market more susceptible to supply pressure.

Throughout 2025, the average international market price of blueberries declined by 3%, settling at $6.22 per kilogram, compared with $6.43 per kilogram the previous year. This price drop was mainly driven by the seasonal surge in exports: volumes in August and September were significantly higher than in 2024, and the market largely absorbed the additional supply through lower unit prices. In August, the export volume nearly doubled year on year, while the price fell sharply. In September, the export volume rose and the export value increased, but the unit price saw a notable adjustment.

In 2025, Peru exported blueberries to 66 destinations, up from 52 in 2024. The United States remained the primary market, but the relative significance of Europe and China grew. Exports to China surged 153%, rising from $105 million to $266 million, partly driven by the launch of direct shipping routes from Chancay Port and lower logistics costs. The Netherlands further solidified its role as a European distribution hub, while Hong Kong’s position as a re-export center to Asian markets weakened.

In 2025, Peru’s blueberry cultivation area grew by roughly 13%, rising from about 26,600 hectares in 2024 to nearly 30,000 hectares. The number of companies exporting blueberries also increased by 22%, from 170 in 2024 to 207 in 2025. While new players are entering the market, exports remain highly concentrated: leading companies continue to capture a significant share of total export value, supported by their own land, long-term projects and strong integration with target markets.

Although 2025 saw robust performance, Peru’s National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (SENAMHI) has warned of medium- to high-risk conditions for blueberry growth from January to March 2026, particularly toward the end of the main growing season. In the northern coastal regions, especially Lambayeque and La Libertad, the current medium-risk level could escalate to high risk in areas where crops are reaching maturity. While rainfall is expected to remain within the normal range, it is projected toward the upper end, and warm temperatures — particularly in densely planted or poorly ventilated areas — may promote pathogen development, potentially leading to fungal diseases.
