Peru Sends First Batch of Frozen Avocado Pulp to China

Peru recently exported frozen avocado pulp to China for the first time, according to the country’s National Agricultural Health Service (SENASA). Sourced from the Lambayeque, La Libertad and Ancash regions, the avocado pulp, totaling 48 metric tons, underwent strict inspection by SENASA to ensure compliance with China’s customs entry requirements.

In 2024, Peru’s avocado exports experienced atypical growth due to a sharp decline in Mexican production. In the first quarter of this year, fresh avocado exports fell by 21% to 76,000 metric tons, with a value of approximately $163 million. Despite this short-term market correction, the Peruvian Hass Avocado Growers Association (ProHass) projects exports above 670,000 metric tons in 2025, up 5% from last year, with an export revenue exceeding $1.5 billion.

Peru is the world’s second-largest avocado exporter after Mexico. The main export markets for Peruvian avocados are Europe, China and the United States, and China’s role as a key market has been growing in recent years.

The entry of frozen avocados into the Chinese market offers new diversification opportunities for Peru’s small and medium-sized producers, supporting growth in regional economies.
