Frutas de Chile Participates in 20th Anniversary Annual Meeting of China–Chile Business Council

May 19, 2025

On the morning of May 14, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Chilean President Gabriel Boric in Beijing during the Fourth Ministerial Meeting of the China–CELAC Forum. In the meeting held the previous day, Boric cited a renowned passage from Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War”: “A state that has perished cannot be restored,” highlighting the critical importance of multilateral international cooperation.

President Boric emphasized that commercial cooperation should transcend mere economic interests, serving as a bridge for cultural exchange. With 92% of Chilean cherries exported to China, maintaining smooth logistical channels not only drives economic value but also exemplifies the cultural dialogue between China and Latin America.

On May 15, the 20th Anniversary Annual Meeting of the China–Chile Business Council, jointly organized by the China Council for International Investment Promotion and the Sociedad de Fomento Fabril (SOFOFA), was held in Beijing. Ivan Marambio, president of Frutas de Chile, and Claudia Soler, executive director of Frutas de Chile’s Chilean Cherry Committee, were among the distinguished attendees.

The China–Chile Business Council Annual Meeting is one of the most prominent and largest forums in the economic and trade investment sector between the two countries. Marambio, a board member of SOFOFA, delivered a speech at the event, addressing key topics related to agri-food and fisheries.

After the meeting, Marambio noted that Frutas de Chile maintains strong ties with SOFOFA. President Boric’s visit to China on behalf of the Chilean government and his participation in these events hold great significance, underscoring the shared commitment of the Chilean government and private enterprises to collaboratively enhance trade between China and Chile.

During their visit, the Frutas de Chile delegation traveled to Dalian to visit Lvhai Agriculture Company, one of China’s leading cherry growers. The delegates toured the company’s planting greenhouses and dust-free packaging workshop, engaging in discussions about cherry cultivation techniques and industry best practices.

China has been Chile’s largest trading partner for many years. This year marks the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and the 20th anniversary of the China–Chile Free Trade Agreement. Chilean cherries represent a success story in the agricultural trade between China and Chile, symbolizing the growing depth of bilateral economic and trade cooperation. The Chilean cherry industry is eager to strengthen collaboration with its Chinese counterparts, deliver more high-quality cherries to the Chinese market and drive mutual growth within the industry.
