Chilean Cherries × Pinduoduo Promotional Campaign To Welcome Year of the Tiger

January 10, 2022

Just a week before the New Year holiday, the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (ASOEX) and the Pinduoduo platform kicked off a joint promotion offering attractive discounts on Chilean cherries.

On Dec. 21, Natalia Cortés, commercial director at the Chilean Embassy in China, appeared on a CCTV livestream to interact with consumers as a spokesperson for Chilean cherries. The next day, Pinduoduo and ASOEX held a joint press conference announcing the official launch of the comprehensive promotional campaign. The event was attended by Frank Di, corporate affairs director at Pinduoduo; Juan José Vidal Wood, Trade Commissioner at the Shanghai office of ProChile; Xiao Fengyin, marketing manager at ASOEX China; and Freya Huang, marketing specialist at ASOEX China.

At 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 22, the representatives of ASOEX and Pinduoduo jointly pressed the start button to light up the large screens of Shanghai Citibank Tower and Shanghai Tower with the slogan “Enjoy your Red Moment.”

According to data released by ASOEX, exports of Chilean cherries to China will account for 87% of the total export volume during the 2021/22 season, making China the world’s largest importer of this product. In terms of ensuring the safety of Chilean cherry exports, Ronald Bown, chairman of ASOEX, reported that members of the Chilean Cherry Committee have made considerable efforts. For example, all workers must wear masks and gloves while picking and packing cherries. In addition, approximately 80% of Chile’s population has been vaccinated with at least one shot, and Chile has one of the highest COVID-19 vaccination rates in the world.

According to the recommendations of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, after buying Chilean cherries, it is only necessary to rinse them with fruit cleaner or water, soak them for at least 10–20 minutes, and then they can be eaten safely.
