Back to topChile Week Across China: Frutas de Chile Brings Fresh Cherries to 4 Cities

From Oct. 20 to 26, coinciding with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Chile and the 20th anniversary of the China–Chile free trade agreement, the 10th Chile Week was held in four cities across China. As Chilean cherries of the new season hit the Chinese market, Frutas de Chile, as a featured member of the Chilean delegation, brought fresh cherries to Tianjin, Chongqing, Shenzhen and Shanghai.
Tianjin: Entering the Northern Gateway and Deepening Logistics Cooperation

On the morning of Oct. 20, the first stop of Chile Week kicked off in Tianjin. As a strategic gateway for Chilean products entering northern China, the Port of Tianjin plays a key role in the region’s fruit trade. Since the launch of the Cherry Express last year, Chilean cherries can now reach major markets in the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei area within hours, delivering top-quality fruit to consumers in second-, third- and fourth-tier cities across northern China.

At the Seminario Agricultura y Logística, Charif Christian Carvajal, marketing director for Asia and Europe at Frutas de Chile, highlighted the critical role of logistics for Chilean cherries on the Chinese market. He held in-depth discussions with representatives from the Port of Tianjin on port operations, logistics and trade cooperation. On site, ProChile, the Chilean export promotion bureau, and the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce and Animal By-Products signed a memorandum of understanding, injecting fresh momentum into bilateral exchanges and cooperation.

Chongqing: Exploring China’s Southwestern Markets via the Regional Logistics Hub

Chongqing, a major logistics hub with a local population of 30 million, connects to the vast fruit markets in southwestern China. On Oct. 22, the Chilean delegation visited the city, a strategic gateway for bringing Chilean cherries to consumers in the southwest region.

Ivan Marambio, president of Frutas de Chile, signed a memorandum of understanding with representatives from the Chongqing Shuangfu Fruit Wholesale Market. Under the agreement, the two sides will collaborate on fruit trade, strengthen commercial ties between the Chilean fruit industry and Chongqing as well as the wider southwest region, and boost the recognition of Chilean fruit among Chinese consumers and buyers. In his keynote speech, Marambio expressed his hope that Chilean cherries, using Chongqing as a gateway, will reach the entire southwestern market.

Frutas de Chile representatives were also interviewed by multiple media outlets, including Chongqing TV, Chongqing Daily, Chongqing Evening News and China Daily, during which they elaborated on Chongqing’s pivotal role in promoting Chilean cherries in southwest China.
Shenzhen: Focusing on the Nutrition and Food Safety of Chilean Cherries
On Oct. 23, Chile Week took place in Shenzhen, featuring the Agriculture and Food Innovation Forum in the morning. Claudia Soler, executive director of the Chilean Cherry Committee of Frutas de Chile, delivered a keynote speech on initiatives to enhance food safety and improve fruit quality.

Soler highlighted that millions of consumers enjoy Chilean cherries each year with confidence. She noted that in first-tier cities, Chilean cherries have become a well-recognized fruit supported by a robust supply chain, forming a stable and mature system for their trade and distribution in China. She added that this year Frutas de Chile plans to further promote the nutritional value and food safety of Chilean cherries, aiming to expand market penetration and raise consumer awareness in regional areas of China.
On the afternoon of Oct. 24, the #MadeByChileans market opened at Sea World, a popular theme park in Shenzhen’s Nanshan district. The event also featured a Chilean food tasting and exchange session aboard the Minghua ship within the park, where local residents delighted in Chilean cuisine and wine while enjoying the season’s fresh cherries.
Shanghai: Chilean-Themed Activities Energize Xintiandi
From Oct. 25 to 26, the final stop of Chile Week took place at Shanghai Xintiandi. Coinciding with the weekend, Chilean cherries and more than 50 Chilean companies were featured at the event. The Chilean cherry mascots also made an appearance, delighting visitors with fresh cherries and fun educational tidbits. Through cuisine, wine and immersive experiences, Chilean culture was brought to life for a wide audience.
Over the past decade, Chile Week has witnessed the deepening of China–Chile economic and trade cooperation, earning recognition from both business communities and the general public in China and Chile alike. Building on its success, Chilean cherries have steadily expanded from first-tier cities to broader regional markets. This year, Frutas de Chile plans to launch more consumer-focused promotional activities to enhance understanding of cherries, highlight their nutritional value and strengthen their presence in China with high-quality offerings.
