Apples (⇨)
New Zealand continues its dominance in the apple market, accounting for over 80% of arrivals in southern China recently. Key varieties like Royal Gala and NZ Queen lead the supply. NZ Royal Gala prices held steady compared to last week, averaging ¥261 (18.0 kg), which is below last year but firmer than the 2023 season. NZ Queen prices eased considerably, averaging ¥305 (18 kg, various sizes). Arrivals of South African Royal Beaut saw prices ease, currently trading below last season’s levels. Grapes (⇩)
Chile remains the primary origin for grapes, supplying nearly 60% of the volume over the last three weeks, followed by Australia. Crimson, Sweet Globe and Red Globe are the main varieties observed. Prices for Chilean Red Globe were stable week on week, averaging ¥159 (8.2 kg), though this is considerably lower than both last year and the 2023 season. Australian Crimson also maintained stable pricing at around ¥210 (9.5 kg), similarly below last year. Peruvian Sweet Globe experienced a slight softening, settling near ¥223 (7.3 kg). Full pricing data by size and other information are available to members.
Grapefruit (⇨)
The first South African Star Ruby of the season have landed. Initial pricing averaged ¥295 (15 kg), almost identical to last year’s levels at this time but substantially (64%) above the start of the 2023 season. See online for more.
Oranges (⇨)
Egyptian Valencia oranges overwhelmingly dominate the market, representing about 85% of recent arrivals in southern China. Prices for Egyptian Valencia held firm compared to the previous week, averaging ¥138 (15.0 kg). While this is notably higher than last year at this time, it remains just slightly below the 2023 season’s level. U.S. Lane Late navels constitute a smaller share of the current supply and the new set of tariffs should effectively end further imports. Visit us online for more.
