Supafresh’s South African Apple and Pear Promotion Wraps Up Successfully

October 21, 2026

During the summer, Shanghai Supafresh Trading Co. Ltd. brought the fresh sweetness of the Southern Hemisphere to Xiaoxiang Supermarket and RT-Mart stores. A promotional campaign themed around South African apples and pears delivered the crisp, sweet taste of South African fresh fruit to Chinese consumers.

At the events, the tasting stations drew a steady stream of visitors. Staff invited customers to sample the fruit while introducing the characteristics of different South African apple and pear varieties. Meanwhile, advertisements went live simultaneously on the Xiaoxiang mini-program, allowing consumers to order fresh South African apples and pears anytime, anywhere.

Supafresh began importing South African apples in 2022, with South African pears added to its import list in 2025. Today, the company’s imported South African apples and pears are supplied to multiple channels including RT-Mart, Pupu, Hema, Xiaoxiang, Dingdong and Biyoute, covering an increasing range of consumption scenarios.

South Africa enjoys naturally excellent growing conditions, with a rich variety of apples and pears and a stable supply. In terms of variety selection, Supafresh’s South African apples are mainly Gala, Fuji and Granny Smith. South African Gala and Fuji apples are small in size, rich in flavor, and crisp and sweet, making them popular among children and family customers. The imported pear varieties are mainly Forelle and Packham. Among them, Forelle pears, with their attractive appearance, crisp and sweet texture when fresh and sweet, creamy texture when softened, are particularly well suited to the preferences of Chinese consumers.

Since May 1, 2026, South African apples and pears have benefited from China’s zero-tariff policy, and Supafresh’s import volume has nearly doubled this year. With the support of the zero-tariff policy, next year’s import volume is expected to reach 50 containers. The company stated that it will continue to focus on the South African apple and pear category, helping South African growers reach more channels and customer groups, and allowing more Chinese consumers to taste quality fresh fruit from South Africa.
