Taking place the day before ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA, ASIAFRUIT CONGRESS is the perfect start to your business week in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong/Berlin, August 9, 2019 – ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA delivers unrivaled business and information opportunities in the world’s fastest-growing fresh produce market. Making the most of those opportunities means getting access to the best market insights and forging the right connections.

ASIAFRUIT CONGRESS is the perfect place to start. Taking place at AsiaWorld-Expo on September 3, the day before ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA (September 4–6), Asia’s premier fresh produce conference event is the ideal primer to the trade show, helping delegates to identify who and what to focus on at ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA.

ASIAFRUIT CONGRESS returns to Hong Kong with a sweeping view of the market changes shaping Asia’s fresh produce business. General sessions at this year’s ASIAFRUIT CONGRESS cover macro trends in production, marketing and trade.

With the food industry, and agricultural production, facing major disruption from science and technology, the opening session to ASIAFRUIT CONGRESS features expert insight from leading food companies on the issue of “Farming for the future”. Meiny Prins, CEO of Dutch company Priva, a leader in providing high-tech sustainable growing technologies for the horticulture industry, opens the conference with her vision of how to feed an ever-growing population on increasingly limited resources. She is then joined in a panel discussion by Harry Debney, CEO of Australian company Costa, and Bruno Libbrecht, global produce business insights lead at Bayer.

The second general session at ASIAFRUIT CONGRESS zones in on some of the latest trends in Asia’s retail and consumer markets, spotlighting innovative technologies and approaches that are changing the in-store experience for shoppers.

The final general session examines the changing trade landscape in Asia, looking in particular at the impact of US–China trade tensions and at the opportunities presented by the Greater Bay Area initiative. ANZ Bank’s chief economist for Greater China, Raymond Yeung, leads the session, with industry insights from Joy Wing Mau’s Jason Zhang and Randy Eckert of major US grower-shipper Yakima Fresh.

Afternoon workshop sessions at ASIAFRUIT CONGRESS go into more detail on exciting growth areas of the business in Asia. Intellectual property varieties are gaining ground in Asian markets, and Garth Swinburn of Sun World International, Mark Tweddle of Jupiter Group and Alessandro Fornari of Jingold discuss their growing influence.

Fueled by China’s insatiable appetite, demand for cherries is booming in Asia. George Liu of Chinese online B2B fruit company Frutacloud examines the future outlook for Asia’s cherry market with a panel of leading global suppliers, including Marcos Echenique of Copefrut, CMI Orchards’ Marc Pflugrath and Yigit Gokyigit of Turkish company Alanar. Other workshop sessions at ASIAFRUIT CONGRESS home in on Spain’s emergence as a fresh produce supplier to Asia, and the growing influence of e-commerce and New Retail in South-East Asia, while Jerry Clode of consumer insights specialist The Solution hosts a brand localization bootcamp.

Global Women Fresh hits Hong Kong

Global Women Fresh, the newly created networking platform for women in the international fresh produce industry, also hosts its second event at ASIA FRUIT LOGISTICA. The event, to be held on September 5 from 3 p.m., follows the success of the non-profit organization’s inaugural meeting at this year’s FRUIT LOGISTICA trade fair in Berlin.

Keynote speaker Susan Mugure presents the UN/WTO’s ground-breaking SheTrades Initiative and explains how the project is boosting economic growth and job creation by encouraging the participation of women-owned businesses in international trade. The focus then turns to technology, with a look at blockchain and its impact on the fresh produce business. Gary Loh of DiMuto discusses how blockchain works and how he is planning to grow his business globally. Two of DiMuto’s customers – Kanjana Yaemprai of Queen Frozen Fruit and Liu Yan of Dalian Xing Ye Yuan – join him to explain how blockchain has impacted their business, and how they see the role of women in the fresh produce industry in Asia.
