FDK China Market Update — Week 27

Apples ()

New Zealand dominates the wholesale market for apples as well as the imported retail offering with its wide selection of varieties and full color profiles. South African and Chilean volumes are trailing. NZ Royal Gala prices lifted this week and are similar to the 2023 season and marginally lower than last year (−4%). South African Fuji Red prices declined to an average of ¥282 (18 kg, various sizes), though still trading 14% firmer than last year. NZ Queen prices also eased, falling 11% below last year’s values. Grapefruit ()

South African Star Ruby remains steady at ¥123 (15 kg, various sizes). Despite minimal weekly movement, current pricing sits 10% above last year and closely tracks the 2023 season. View market data.

Lemons (⇩)

South African arrivals remain limited. The average price of lemons was around ¥260 (15 kg, various sizes), which was slightly down on last week but still a full 47% above last year. Further details showing brand and price by size are available to members. View market data.

Oranges ()

The market is shifting in favor of Southern Hemisphere supply as Egyptian Valencia oranges are approaching the end of their season. Australia accounted for about 60% of container openings in southern China in this most recent week, as South Africa and Egypt shared the balance. Egyptian Valencia prices improved this week, trading 41% above last year’s levels. Australian navel prices also lifted to an average of ¥307 (18 kg, various sizes). South African navel pricing softened yet remains above the same week of the 2024 and 2023 seasons. Full details are available online. View market data.

Soft Citrus ()

South African Nova prices increased to ¥183 (10 kg, various sizes), trading 68% above the low 2023 level. Australian Royal Honey Murcott pricing eased slightly to ¥260 (9 kg, various sizes) but remains 10% firmer than last year. Peruvian Tango was available in the market at ¥145 (10 kg, various sizes), representing a 27% decline compared with last year but remaining 50% above 2023. View market data.
