Apples ()

New Zealand maintains its strong presence in the apple market, commanding more than 74% of container openings in southern China over the past three weeks, with this share increasing to over 80% in week 22. South African apples follow, holding around 17% of the three-week volume. NZ Royal Gala prices saw a slight easing, averaging around ¥296 (18 kg, various sizes), a minor dip from the previous week and about 9% lower than last year. NZ Queen prices remained stable, at an average of ¥318 (18 kg), and were down 13% from last season’s average value. Further wholesale data covering South African and Chilean produce, as well as retail specifics, are available on our website. View market data.

Grapes (⇩)

The grape market is primarily supplied by Chile and Australia. Chilean Red Globe prices continued their sharp decline, settling near ¥97 (8.2 kg), a considerable week-on-week drop and trading 24% below 2023’s values. Australian Crimson also experienced a significant price reduction, averaging ¥124 (9.5 kg), which is markedly (38%) lower than the same period of last season. Prices for Chilean Autumn Royal also weakened considerably to ¥116 (7.3 kg), down nearly 39% year on year. Imported grape details in Hema, Walmart, Wumart, AEON, RT-Mart, Vanguard and others can be found online by members. View market data.

Grapefruit (⇩)

South Africa continues to be the sole origin for grapefruit in the market. Prices for South African Star Ruby experienced a sharp downward decline this week, averaging ¥151 (15 kg, various sizes). Despite this significant week-on-week drop, current values are roughly in line with last year but remain over 13% firmer compared to 2023. In AEON, South African Star Ruby was available to consumers at ¥6.90 per piece. View market data.

Oranges (⇧)

Egypt and the United States remain the primary origins for oranges, with Egypt holding the larger share of the volume. Egyptian Valencia showed renewed strength, with prices lifting to an average of ¥161 (15 kg, various sizes). This marks a positive shift from the prior week and places current values nearly 35% higher than last year and above 2023 too. Further price by size details as well as retail information is available to members. View market data.

Soft Citrus (⇧)

The soft citrus market is seeing early arrivals from both Australia and South Africa. South African Nova mandarins made their seasonal debut, opening at around ¥170 (10 kg). This represents a strong start, with prices much firmer than the 2023 season’s initial offerings. View market data.
