FDK China Market Update — Week 26 [1]

Submitted by Produce Report [2] on Wed, 07/01/2026 - 21:05

This newsletter is published on behalf of Fruit Data Kings, a Berlin-based company specializing in pricing data and associated analytical tools for the fresh produce industry. For more information, visit the Fruit Data Kings website [3].

Apples (⇧)

Overall apple pricing lifted this week, with only a few exceptions such as South African Fuji, which softened slightly, averaging at ¥225 (18 kg, various sizes). New Zealand Royal Gala, which continues to dominate the offering, improved, which is welcome considering that it has been pricing below the previous two seasons and is still 4% below last year and 10% below 2024. Further information on Chilean, South African and New Zealand varieties is available online.

Cherries (⇩)

U.S. cherries remain active, with the most dominant variety over the last three weeks being Black Pearl. Pricing has declined for 9R goods from about ¥860 in week 24 to around ¥435 in week 26; we see a similar decline for the smaller 9.5R goods from ¥710 down to ¥402. These declines, however, are normal movements. Further variety details are available to members.

Grapefruit (⇩)

South African Star Ruby remains rather similar in price to the 2025 season, with pricing declining slightly over the past two weeks. As we are trading at levels similar to 2025 values, the market is currently a modest 8% firmer than the same week of 2024. Brand information is available online.

Lemons (⇧)

South African Eureka prices have lifted for the third consecutive week and remain above the 2024 level by a firm 46%. Despite this, values are still about 33% below what was recorded last year. At retail, lemon pricing remains flat and also about 34% below the average value of last season at ¥25.80 per kilogram, which is still a healthy margin for retail.

Oranges (⇩)

While Egyptian Valencia oranges are approaching the close of the season, Australian navels have been entering the market for the past two weeks. Egyptian goods are presently well below the price range of the previous two years, while Australian navels (18 kg) have started at levels similar to the 2025 season, with some brands asking for firmer pricing similar to what was visible at the start of the 2024 season.

Soft Citrus (⇨)

Southern Hemisphere soft citrus is gradually picking up, with Royal Honey Murcott and Nova the dominant varieties on offer from South Africa and Australia. Pricing for both origins is trending below the previous two seasons; however, the 18-kilogram packs for Royal Honey Murcott are stable for the time being, but this will shift as supply materializes.
