First Ever Nationwide Promotional Campaign for Peruvian Avocados Launched in China [1]

Submitted by Jing Zang [2] on Mon, 09/22/2025 - 01:48

On Sept. 16, the Commission for the Promotion of Peruvian Exports and Tourism [3] (PROMPERÚ) visited a More Yogurt [4] store at the Sun Moon Light Center in Shanghai. More Yogurt’s CEO, Guo Hao, accompanied Bernardo Muñoz, commercial counselor at the Consulate General of Peru in Shanghai, on a tour of the store, where a Peruvian avocado-themed promotional event was taking place.

As a fresh yogurt brand that uses avocados as one of its core ingredients, More Yogurt has long sourced its avocados from Peru. By May 2025, total sales of More Yogurt’s avocado products were approaching 100 million cups, among which nearly 47 million cups were its flagship avocado yogurt smoothies. In May of this year, More Yogurt also launched the Crazy Avocado Month campaign. By the end of May, the event-themed avocado smoothie topic had accumulated nearly 60 million views and over 160,000 discussions on RedNote, a popular Chinese social media and e-commerce platform where users share lifestyle content and product recommendations.

Recently, a month-long nationwide promotion for Peruvian avocados [5] was launched for the first time in China. In addition to the collaboration with More Yogurt, the campaign also partnered with major e-commerce platforms such as JD Fresh and Meituan, as well as employing offline promotions at Freshippo stores in Shanghai and Chengdu, 7Fresh stores in Beijing, and BUT Mart stores in key cities in Northeast China, including Harbin, Shenyang, Changchun and Dalian.

Muñoz tasted a smoothie made with Peruvian avocados on site and expressed his appreciation for its quality and flavor. He mentioned that last year, the total export value of Peruvian avocados to China was approximately $50 million, and by June of this year, the export value had already exceeded the previous year’s total, reaching $54 million. He also predicted that the annual export value would grow by 20–30%, or potentially even more.

Peru is the world’s second-largest avocado producer, after Mexico. According to data from China Customs, China imported 49,000 metric tons of avocados in 2024. Peru, as the largest supplier of avocados to China, accounted for 78% of the market share, with 38,000 metric tons imported from the country. Muñoz added that in recent years, demand for avocados in China has continued to rise, and he regarded the collaboration with More Yogurt as a strong example of how Peruvian avocados have become integrated into the daily lives of Chinese consumers.

The rich and creamy texture of avocados adds a smooth and buttery taste to beverages. In recent years, China’s tea beverage brands have faced intense competition, and the development of avocado-based drinks has become increasingly diverse and innovative. Among them, More Yogurt has made a significant breakthrough on the market with its focus on avocado yogurt smoothies as a core product strategy.

At the event, Guo echoed Muñoz’s remarks and spoke highly of the climatic and soil conditions in Peru. He emphasized that the maturity, taste, nutritional content and freshness of Peruvian avocados are exceptional, aligning perfectly with More Yogurt’s commitment to sourcing premium ingredients. He also highlighted that, as a leading production region for Hass avocados, Peru’s avocado industry is well established and excels in product stability and traceability.

Camposol [6], a major Peruvian fruit and vegetable exporter, is a key supplier of avocados to More Yogurt. According to Sunny, a Camposol representative, the company’s strong operational capabilities ensure a steady supply of premium Peruvian avocados, providing a solid foundation for More Yogurt’s rapid growth in China.

Shanghai Supafresh [7] provides delivery services for More Yogurt’s stores in Shanghai and is one of the largest importers of avocados in China. Supafresh has established warehouses and ripening centers in major regions across the country, with a business focusing on ready-to-eat avocados. The company’s product development manager, Jason Wang, explained to Produce Report that in order to meet the demand of beverage stores, they are able to deliver fresh ready-to-eat avocados daily.

In November 2024, the new Chancay Port [8] officially opened in Peru. This deep-water port, built with investment from China’s COSCO Shipping, is being hailed as the new hub connecting South America and the Asia-Pacific region. It has reduced the shipping time from Peru to China from over 35 days to approximately 24 days, creating unprecedented opportunities for Peruvian agricultural exporters. Within just one month of its opening, 20,000 metric tons of Peruvian fruits, including avocados, had been successfully sent directly to Shanghai. As Chancay Port’s operations continue to mature, the import process for Peruvian fruits such as avocados is expected to further improve.
