Apples (⇩)

New Zealand remained the clearly dominant import origin, with South Africa taking the second position and Chile the third over the past three weeks. Royal Gala accounted for about 55% of recorded entries for the Guangzhou and Shanghai markets. New Zealand Royal Gala was following a similar price trend to last season, which was around 12% lower than the same week. Count 90/100 was pricing rather closely around ¥270–280 (18 kg), as count 120/130 was mostly between ¥240 and ¥265 (18 kg). South African Royal Gala was also trading closer to last season and 13% lower than 2024, while Chile was trading below the previous two seasons. At the retail level, overall pricing remained similar to the previous year with an average price of ¥29.15 ($4.02) per kilogram for Royal Gala. Pink Lady was trading considerably higher with an average retail price of ¥41.90 per kilogram. Full wholesale and retail price information is available to members.

Grapes (⇨)

Of recorded wholesale entries, Australia accounted for over 50% of the market, followed closely by Chile. The selection of varieties is rather robust at the moment, but Crimson was the most dominant with 29% market share, followed by Red Globe at approximately 20% of the market. Australian Crimson was rather steady this week, firmer than 2025 (+17%) but lower than 2024 (−23%). The price range has widened in the past three weeks with some fruit trading at a discount due to quality. Chilean Red Globe improved this week and was hovering at an average value of ¥160 (8.2 kg). At the retail level, we are trading similarly to the previous season with an average price across all grapes sitting at ¥60 ($8.28) per kilogram.

Grapefruit (⇩)

Entries of fresh South African grapefruit thus far have been limited, with pricing considerably lower than in previous seasons (−30%). These starting values are rather similar to what the market usually sees five weeks into the season. One will need to revisit the pricing once volumes pick up more meaningfully.

Oranges (⇩)

Imports were split between the United States, Spain and Egypt. Egyptian Valencia oranges remain under pressure as local goods remain a viable alternative, with fresh openings trading at between ¥90 and ¥100 (15 kg, various sizes). Further wholesale details as well as retail pricing by retailer is available to subscribers.
