Yunnan’s Luquan County Pumps 500 Million Yuan Into Blueberry Industry [1]

According to media reports from Yunnan, since the beginning of 2026, Luquan Yi and Miao Autonomous County in Kunming has successively launched two large-scale blueberry production base projects with a total cultivation area of 367 hectares.

On Jan. 7, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Yunshang Blueberry Valley project was held in the village of Jiadian, Luquan County. The project features a planned total investment of 420 million Chinese yuan ($61.0 million) and is being invested in and operated by Yunnan Hengxinrun Agriculture Co. Ltd. (云南恒鑫润农业有限公司). A 267-hectare blueberry planting base will be developed across the villages of Jiadian and Douwu. In the first phase of the project, 100 hectares of greenhouses will be built and blueberry plants transplanted, with completion scheduled by April of this year.

On Feb. 26, another groundbreaking ceremony was held for the 100-hectare Cuihua Bazi Blueberry Industry Base Project. This project has a planned total investment of 100 million yuan ($14.5 million) and will cover land across three villages — Cuihua, Xingzhuang and Hongshiyan. It is being invested in and operated by Yunnan Hengxincheng Agriculture Co. Ltd. (云南恒鑫程农业有限公司). The project will focus on constructing modern greenhouses, advanced irrigation systems and supporting cold-chain logistics facilities, with 100 hectares dedicated to Huaxiang blueberries [3].

Once completed, the project will establish a complete industry chain integrating production, cold storage, packaging and sales. Fixed asset investment is expected to exceed 85 million yuan ($12.3 million). After reaching full production capacity, the base is expected to yield approximately 1,500 metric tons of fresh blueberries annually.

Yunnan’s unique geography and climate allow blueberries to be harvested and sold from December through July. Notably, during the Chinese New Year period, Yunnan is virtually the only large-scale producer of high-quality blueberries in China, commanding a market share in excess of 90%.

Luquan County is also well known for its honeysuckle cultivation. In recent years, blueberries have emerged as another key industry [4], with several new planting bases established. For instance, the blueberry base in the village of Yongding now supplies products to major retail chains such as Freshippo and Sam’s Club.

According to data from the Department of Commerce of Yunnan Province, daily shipments of Yunnan blueberries reached 350,000 packages during the Chinese New Year holiday. During the same period, JD Fresh reported that sales of premium large-fruit Yunnan high-mountain blueberry gift boxes surged by 23-fold year on year, while overall blueberry sales rose by 176% compared with the previous year.
