Bac Ninh Lychee Prices at Record Highs as China Imports Hit 18,000 Tons [1]

Lychee prices [3] in Vietnam’s Bac Ninh province have been holding stable at historically high levels since the season opened.

The newly consolidated Bac Ninh province — formed in July 2025 from the merger of the former Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces — is Vietnam’s largest lychee-producing region. Early-season varieties fetched 35,000–70,000 Vietnamese dong ($1.33–2.66) per kilogram. Now that the main harvest is underway, prices have climbed to 55,000–90,000 dong ($2.09–3.42) per kilogram, with the premium U Trung egg-shaped variety briefly hitting a record 300,000 dong ($11.39) per kilogram. Local traders and exporters expect prices to rise further in the near term.

Bac Ninh province’s total lychee cultivation area stands at approximately 29,800 hectares. Of that, 17,500 hectares (58.7%) are farmed under VietGAP standards, 255 hectares are certified under GlobalGAP and 10 hectares are cultivated organically. Total lychee output for 2026 is forecast at 125,000 metric tons, equivalent to 60.9% of the 2025 harvest volume. The decline is largely attributable to unfavorable weather during the flowering period, including a warm winter and hot, dry conditions that reduced flowering and fruit set in several growing areas.

As of June 8, 2026, Bac Ninh province’s lychee harvest stood at an estimated 47,530 metric tons — primarily early-season varieties — representing 38.02% of the province’s projected full-season volume. Of that total, 29,030 metric tons (61.1%) went to domestic consumption and 18,500 metric tons (38.9%) were exported.

Demand for Bac Ninh lychees has remained broadly stable across both domestic and export markets. China [4] remains the dominant export destination, absorbing approximately 17,990 metric tons, with shipments processed through dedicated green-lane priority customs clearance channels. Other markets include Canada (120 metric tons), Japan (120 metric tons), the United States (30 metric tons) and the European Union (30 metric tons).

In addition to maintaining green-lane export access to China, Bac Ninh province is actively working to establish a more complete lychee supply chain and expand sales in key potential markets including the European Union, North America, Japan and South Korea.
